Half a Century Old Delicacy

When the Chinese describes their century eggs as a delicacy, I thought it was crazy. Then, suddenly this light came to me about the their rationale of centuty eggs. Being rotten can be good in a sense that rotten stuff can become fertilizers as they decomposed into a totally different compound. However the Chinese do not see it as rotten eggs but rather a 'matured' and 'utmost' supreme condition of any types of eggs on earth.

This must be one of the weirdest food in the world. Eggs preserved for a hundred or even thousand years! The yolk becomes a dark green, cream-like substance with a strong odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, transparent jelly with little flavour or taste. The transforming agent in the century egg is its alkaline material, which gradually raises the pH of the egg from around 9 to 12 or more. This chemical process breaks down some of the complex, flavorless proteins and fats, which produces a variety of smaller flavourful compounds. Some eggs have patterns near the surface of the egg white that are likened to pine branches." Wow..sounds so delicate..now I know why they regard them as delicacy. Have you tried??

A Plan or A Dream?

My 12-year old Reena started her maiden blog last night and the contents were so very very sweet. However, after awhile I thought of ways to help her improve her Manglish...to real English. Though she used words that I had never taught her before, I still think I should get a friend to guide her on good English from scatch. Hmm..... may be my other three kids and even myself should join in.

My plan for Reena is to ensure that she gets 5As in the UPSR exam and do science subjects in the secondary school. If she goes to a boarding school, I am sure she can get at least 7 A in PMR ( don't know about English though) and hopefully 8 As in SPM. Hmm.....then she would qualify for a scholarship to do medicine.... locally. At least at the University of Malaya, if not overseas. (Not India!)

It may sound like a dream, but 10 years from now I will get to see this blog again and post my joy as Reena becomes Dr Reena!! I feel totally good dreaming about it...will start planning.

Be back soon.

A Month of Happenings: March

Today is Nina's 18th birthday! She can get a kiss for her boyfriends if she has any!??? She can kiss them too??? NOPE. HAHAHA. I am joking. If that happens, she will be grounded and have to stay in Sabah and study for STPM for 2 years! I guess big bro and cousin sis and Ahlina enjoyed a birthday treat at Wagamama, One Borneo today.

So, what's with March?
The BAD 1ST
Broke a tooth. Ouch!
I lost the most expensive necklace. Couldn't sleep for 3 days!
Scared to tell hubby. It was a gift from him a day earlier.
My hp had a splash of H2O at the pool.
My hubby lost 2 hard drives. He realised after a lapse of 1 year!
I had to search for lost items and went almost crazy for days!!
Missed a Zoo outing because of the crazy search!

The GOOD
Nephew got married in Johor.
Another getting married in May.
Free journey and shop in KL
My eldest son, Dzwan 23rd Birthday. RM200 for budget gathering at MMU.
Nina and cousins and close friends cleared all SPM papers
Bought her a laptop
Called my mum. Sent her some $
Kids, cousin and hubby went for Zoo outing. I had a good rest.
Nice treats at Baba Nyonya and ate till we drop at Wagamama (Hmmm)
Found my necklace after 3 days of the most stressful period. (In a hidden space in my own handbag. Ameen...)
Today I found my hubby's hard drives..they were placed so close to the garbage exit for almost a year!!....Ameen
My hp is still working. Yes!

I am so thankful to God who tested my patience in dealing with just a handfull of problems compared to so many beautiful things that happen within the same month, March. Indeed the month of MARCH this year is so meaningful to me now as realise that I will be 50 tomorrow!

SPM 2008 Result

Result is out today! My daughter gets 3A 3B 3C and that is an achievement of last minute study, for the so-called most important certificate in Malaysia. Do you know that without it you would not be able to be employed in the country especially the government sector? Unless, it's your own family's empire, of course!

I am proud of her as she didn't fail any subject! I know she could have done better if not because of the frequent internet use at home. I think she spends far much more time on Korean artists, movies, concerts, and Korean songs than her revision for SPM!! You can ask her if you like.

So, what's next? She is on her way to a university foundation programme of her choice.

Congratulations sweetie!

Down Memory Lane

Feeling nostalgic? Think of all the wonderful moments of sweet encounters with friends, families and someone you totally adore. Whoever the person maybe, you soul would be filled with beautiful thoughts that no one else could describe. The feelings would flow thoughout your body and rekindle your spirit with love, joy and life. Close your eyes and do just that!

Ever felt that before? Well, I just did. These are some pictures that made life a sweet experience.

A Thought

Being a mum to 4 kids is not easy in the beginning. But now that they are no more cries for milk and puried meals, life seems easier to handle. Not that there are no worries anymore but rather glad that they are matured enough not to swallow just anything, fall down the staircase, and pick sharp objects etc. etc! Sleep was a luxury when they were small, and I could't afford much of it then. Now? I just wonder why some people sleep long hours...6 hours is long indeed!
